Environment Product Compliance and Sustainability Engineer

About the role

Hitachi Rail Romania is looking for an Environment Product Compliance and Sustainability Engineer (m/f/d) based in Bucharest, Romania. The position is full time and hybrid, and supports product stakeholders on compliance and sustainability requirements arising from legal regulations and customer needs. The engineer analyzes and identifies risks and impacts related to product compliance and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze existing products against environmental regulations such as RoHS, REACH, POP, SCIP and CE, with a focus on RISL, and evaluate their compliance across the product lifecycle
• Support design teams in the lifecycle assessment (LCA) of new and existing products to deliver sustainable solutions
• Advise design teams on the selection of environmentally compliant materials and components
• Use the appropriate tools to ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability regulations
• Process change requests related to environmental and sustainability standards, making sure all relevant norms and regulations are considered
• Prepare and maintain documentation related to environmental compliance and product conformity

Required profile

• Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical or Material Engineering, preferably with a focus on sustainable material or energy systems, or comparable fields
• Knowledge of relevant standards and directives (e.g. REACH, RoHS) and experience in materials management and product compliance in the environmental protection context
• Ideally, experience in product sustainability, including Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and work in an agile development environment
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Willingness to work in a global environment and collaborate with international stakeholders

Required skills

• Understanding of EN 45545 compliance for material selection and design is highly desirable but not mandatory
• Independent, structured and self-reliant working style, with strong team spirit and open communication
