Treasury Economist

About the role

METRO Romania, a wholesale food and non-food distributor, is looking for a Treasury Economist in Bucharest. Treasury keeps the business financially healthy and operations running smoothly, and the Treasury Economist manages cash and liquidity processes, ensures accurate store reconciliations and helps improve how the work is done.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day banking operations, petty cash and insurance activities
• Follow the daily process of sales postings and reconciliation
• Maintain strong relationships with banking partners
• Reconcile store sales with payment methods daily, spotting discrepancies quickly
• Prepare and analyse cash flow on a biweekly and monthly basis, investigate deviations and help improve forecasting accuracy
• Support liquidity planning and Net Working Capital (NWC) calculations
• Contribute to optimising treasury processes across the two Shared Service Centers
• Support internal financial controls and provide information during internal and external audits
• Review and improve internal procedures and work instructions for store operations

Required profile

• At least 7 years of relevant experience in accounting, treasury or cash management
• Bachelor's degree
• Good understanding of cash management and financial processes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail
• Fluent English
• Proactive, collaborative and able to work with different teams and stakeholders

Required skills

• Advanced MS Office, especially Excel
• Good knowledge of SAP
