Third Engineer (Container Vessels)

About the role

Maersk is recruiting a Third Engineer for its container vessels. The role is described as a key position in the world's largest container shipping company, offering the chance to develop technical competencies on advanced vessels with modern machinery and to help optimise efficiency and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engine room watch-keeping duties when required.
• Carry out work routines in your area of responsibility, as directed by the Chief Engineer and/or Second Engineer.
• Maintain generator engines and fuel injection equipment according to the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Keep generator engines well maintained for optimum performance and fuel consumption, and report any breakdowns, failures or deviations to the Chief Engineer and Second Engineer.
• Check the stock of generator and fuel injector spare parts so that minimum requirements are always met.
• Keep the generator engine rooms and other work areas clean and orderly.
• Carry out routine and maintenance activities, including breakdown maintenance, as directed by the Chief Engineer and/or Second Engineer.
• Ensure chemicals are used safely in line with Material Safety Data Sheets.
• Instruct and supervise the use of safety, environmental protection, firefighting and lifesaving equipment.
• Take part in briefings and debriefings to support efficient teamwork.

Required profile

• Qualified experienced seafarer with at least 6 months of seatime.
• Rank experience on vessels with UMS and engines of at least 20,000 BHP.
