Fourth Engineer (SF) - Container Vessels

About the role

Maersk is recruiting a qualified, experienced seafarer for the position of Fourth Engineer on its container vessels. The role is described as a key position in the world's largest container shipping company, offering the chance to develop technical competencies on advanced vessels with modern machinery and to help optimise efficiency and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engine room watch-keeping duties when required.
• Carry out work routines in your area of responsibility, as directed by the Chief Engineer and/or Second Engineer.
• Maintain purifiers, air compressors, boiler and jacket water chemical levels and lifeboat engines as directed.
• Assist the Chief Engineer during bunkering operations.
• Keep machinery under your responsibility well maintained for optimum performance and fuel consumption, and report any breakdowns, failures or deviations to the Chief Engineer and Second Engineer.
• Check stock of machinery spare parts so minimum requirements are always met.
• Keep purifier rooms and other work areas clean and orderly.
• Ensure chemicals are used safely according to Material Safety Data Sheet instructions.
• Instruct and supervise crew in the use of safety, environmental protection, firefighting and lifesaving equipment.
• Supervise personnel in your charge, including orientation, health and safety, environmental protection, use of manuals and procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, and standard maintenance and operating practices.

Required profile

• At least 6 months of seatime experience.
• Rank experience on vessels with UMS and engines of at least 20,000 BHP.
