Tax Manager

About the role

METRO, a global wholesale distributor of food and non-food products, is looking for a Tax Manager in Bucharest to oversee its tax function and drive efficiency, compliance and continuous improvement across its financial operations. The role suits someone with strong tax expertise and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate the department's operational activities and improve workflows to meet objectives
• Supervise and coordinate tax activities in line with applicable tax legislation
• Develop, update and communicate internal procedures and guidelines for applying tax regulations
• Provide tax and accounting advice to Finance & Accounting and other departments
• Manage relationships with external auditors and support them financially and accountably
• Oversee tax authorizations and fiscal registration of new business locations
• Contribute to projects and action plans to improve tax and financial processes, including new systems
• Calculate deferred income tax under IAS and report accurately to the Group
• Analyze expenses and revenues from a tax perspective and propose tax optimization measures
• Monitor legislative changes, keep databases and legislation tools up to date and inform relevant departments
• Review contracts with external providers, financial statements and tax reports, and check the accuracy of tax calculations, returns and declarations

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of Romanian tax legislation
• Proven experience in tax compliance, tax audits and dealings with fiscal authorities
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Experience working with external auditors and cross-functional teams
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to turn tax concepts into clear business recommendations
