SRE Expert

About the role

ING Hubs Romania, which provides software development, data management, risk and compliance, audit and retail operations services to 24 ING units worldwide, is hiring an SRE Expert in Bucharest. The role guides tribes toward their Site Reliability Engineering objectives with a high degree of autonomy, within the Wholesale Banking (WB Tech) CoE, which covers lending, financial markets and wholesale channels. The SRE Expert leads tribes on SRE practices and implementations and contributes to the E&R organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Support the FMGT CBSM team and tribe in their reliability objectives, covering governance, toil reduction, root cause analysis and data-driven improvement.
• Define, track and enforce SLOs, SLIs and error budgets across development teams and critical business services.
• Analyse workflows to find inefficiencies and guide teams on automating operations or removing waste.
• Help define SLO/SLI setups, support root cause analysis and Swiss Cheese post-mortems, and advocate structural improvements.
• Provide hands-on support to application teams on reliability topics and mentor and coach other SREs in the FMGT tribe.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience in software engineering, SRE or technical product management, with a strong understanding of the SDLC.
• Strong expertise in setting up SLOs/SLIs, error budget policies and continuous improvement frameworks.
• Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, able to influence engineering practices and mentor developers without direct authority.
• Comfortable working across engineering teams, SRE specialists and senior stakeholders, with a problem-solving mentality and healthy scepticism.

Required skills

• CI/CD standards, preferably Azure DevOps.
• Monitoring, logging and tracing tools such as Prometheus, ELK, Grafana and OpenTelemetry.
• SRE concepts: SLI, SLO, error budgeting and availability reporting.
• Containers and cloud tooling, and good knowledge of IT security principles.
• Nice to have: ITIL, Agile or DevOps experience at scale, Cloud Architecture or Agile Project Management certification, and previous Tech Lead or Engineering Manager experience.
