Chapter Lead Engineer – BMG

About the role

ING Hubs Romania, which provides software development, data management, risk and compliance, audit and retail operations services to 24 ING units worldwide, is hiring a Chapter Lead Engineer for its BMG (Bank Mendes Gans) unit. BMG is a specialized wholesale bank offering cash management, liquidity management and transaction banking solutions to multinational corporations. As Chapter Lead, you split your time between engineering leadership and delivery, and people leadership and capability building, leading a self-sufficient team of 8-15 engineers and being accountable for the quality, reliability and resilience of the services in production.

Key responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery for Agile DevOps squads, driving execution against sprint goals, milestones and roadmaps, and removing impediments
• Manage delivery risks, dependencies, technical debt and operational concerns, and set accountability for service reliability, observability and availability
• Take ownership of services from development to production: monitor health, investigate incidents, run root cause analysis, take part in on-call rotations and reduce overhead through automation and self-healing
• Define engineering standards, promote DevOps, CI/CD, test automation, observability and secure-by-design, and coach engineers on architecture, reliability and scalability
• Drive responsible adoption of AI-assisted engineering, including AI literacy, safety and governance, and measure productivity gains
• Ensure compliance with technology governance, risk, security, DORA and resilience requirements, and keep teams audit-ready
• Lead, coach and develop the team, handle performance management, talent assessments and succession planning, and support wellbeing and inclusion
