Software Engineer, Linux Kernel/BSP

About the role

Join NXP’s embedded Linux team to develop the Board Support Package (BSP) for the S32 automotive processors. You will work on bootloaders, firmware, hypervisors, kernels and device drivers, contributing both to internal projects and upstream open‑source communities.

Key responsibilities

• Write and debug Embedded C (and some assembly) across the BSP, including U‑Boot, firmware, hypervisor, kernel and device drivers.
• Participate in SoC bring‑up from pre‑silicon emulation to first silicon, delivering a stable Linux distribution.
• Develop new features and drivers for upcoming SoCs and prototype emerging technologies such as virtualization and security.
• Investigate and resolve low‑level hardware/software issues, using tools like JTAG and GDB.
• Build and customize Linux distributions with Yocto, and debug on target hardware.

Required profile

• Recent graduate (within 2 years) with a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with systems programming in C (or C++) and working in a Linux/Unix environment.

Required skills

• Embedded C and assembly programming.
• Linux kernel, device driver development, and bootloader (U‑Boot) knowledge.
• Yocto (or Buildroot) build systems and cross‑compilation.
• Python scripting for automation.
• ARM architecture, low‑level debugging (JTAG, GDB).
