Staff Systems Engineer – Automotive

About the role

Garmin is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to join its Automotive team in Cluj. The role focuses on defining system architecture, driving hardware and software integration, and mentoring engineers across domains.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain system architecture specifications, interface definitions, and integration plans for hardware, firmware, and software teams.
• Develop hardware block diagrams, select main components (SoC, MCU), and define vehicle subsystem interfaces.
• Define software system architecture, partitioning, and integration with hardware abstraction layers.
• Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and conduct trade‑off analysis covering power, signal integrity, latency, and reliability.
• Establish verification criteria that unify hardware validation, firmware testing, and software QA.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Software Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Approximately 20 years of relevant experience in automotive infotainment, ADAS, and automated driving systems.
• Proven ability to influence engineering management and collaborate with industrial partners.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Required skills

• System architecture design and interface definition.
• Hardware block diagram creation, SoC and MCU selection.
• Software partitioning and hardware abstraction layer integration.
• FMEA, risk analysis, design‑for‑test/manufacturing.
• Experience with ADAS and automated driving system development.
