Job description

About the role

HARMAN Automotive is looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Hardware Engineer to join its Value Management (VM) organization within the Intelligent Cockpit SBU, based in Bucharest. The role sits at the core of execution, driving value creation through hands-on work in VM workshops and continuous development of the ideation pipeline. It works closely with cross-functional teams to identify and mature cost optimization opportunities across IVI/CDC programs.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate cross-functional VM (VAVE) workshops for RFQs and awarded programs, driving structured ideation and actionable outcomes.
  • Own and manage the VM ideation pipeline, ensuring continuous flow, prioritization and tracking of value ideas from creation to implementation.
  • Analyze system architecture, HW blocks and mechanical concepts to identify cost optimization opportunities while keeping product performance and quality.
  • Collaborate with hardware, mechanical engineering, system architecture, procurement and program teams to validate feasibility and drive implementation.
  • Perform technical investigations and design change verifications of analog and digital hardware functional blocks during feasibility analysis.
  • Support RFQ/RFX activities with cost-saving ideas and strengthen BOM competitiveness through value engineering inputs.
  • Track savings, pipeline maturity and implementation status to support data-driven decisions, and promote reuse of proven ideas and HW blocks.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of VM processes, workshop methodologies and tools.

Required profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience in hardware design, component engineering, Value Management or related fields such as VAVE and cost engineering (electronic systems), in the automotive or technology sectors.
  • Understanding of automotive electronics requirements, technologies and the end-to-end value chain.
  • Fluent English with strong communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders.

Required skills

  • Basic knowledge of CAD tools for schematic/PCB layout and circuit simulation (e.g. Mentor Graphics, Spice).
  • Experience with laboratory tools and hardware bench testing.
  • Ability to lead technical presentations and facilitate workshops internally and externally.
  • Strong analytical skills, including data analysis, KPI tracking and relevant software tools.
  • Ability to explain complex technical issues and justify technical decisions.

What we offer

  • A hybrid environment, with most office-based roles onsite three days a week.
  • Employee discounts on HARMAN and Samsung products (JBL, Harman/Kardon, AKG, etc.).
  • Learning and development through HARMAN University programs.
  • Wellness benefits and an inclusive, diverse workplace.
