Senior Data Engineer - Snowflake & Power BI

About the role

EC Markets, an FCA-regulated FX and CFD brokerage, is building a next-generation data platform to power trading, operational and marketing intelligence. It is growing its Data Platform team and is looking for a Senior Data Engineer in Bucharest (onsite) to lead the evolution of its Snowflake-based Data Lakehouse and set up a modern data ecosystem supporting advanced analytics, regulatory reporting and decision-making. The role reports to the Head of Tech.

Key responsibilities

• Own a Snowflake-centric Data Lakehouse integrating structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.
• Develop and support ETL/ELT pipelines ingesting data from trading, CRM, finance and risk systems and external APIs.
• Implement data models, schemas and transformation frameworks for analytical and regulatory use cases, with data versioning, orchestration and automation.
• Build semantic models on Snowflake (DirectQuery and Import) using DAX, calculation groups, RLS/OLS and incremental refresh.
• Develop operational reports, dashboards and extracts for Trading, Finance, Marketing, Compliance and Operations.
• Maintain data integrity, privacy and security aligned with FCA and GDPR, and optimise query performance and storage.
• Work with business units to turn data requirements into technical solutions and support regulatory, management and operational reporting.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5-8 years of hands-on experience in data engineering and/or analytics engineering.
• Experience in financial services, trading or fintech environments.
• Proven experience designing and delivering a DWH or Delta Lakehouse using Snowflake.
• At least 2 years writing dbt models in production, including the medallion pattern.
• At least 3 years building production Power BI on enterprise warehouses.

Required skills

• Expert SQL and data modelling (star/snowflake schemas, dimensional modelling).
• Expert DAX, Power Query / M, Tabular Editor and DAX Studio.
• Strong SQL on Snowflake, including warehouse sizing, clustering and query profiles.
• Familiarity with orchestration and transformation frameworks.
• Nice to have: Python, AWS (ECS, S3, IAM), Terraform, Git / GitHub Actions, Power BI Embedded, Microsoft Fabric, AI-on-warehouse patterns.
