ESG Manager / Senior Manager – Financial Institutions

About the role

PwC is seeking an experienced ESG Manager or Senior Manager to lead sustainability and ESG engagements for financial‑services clients. You will work within the Financial Services ESG team, helping banks and other institutions balance economic, social and environmental objectives while complying with European and local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver ESG‑related projects covering sustainability reporting, ESG strategy, governance, sustainable finance, climate and ESG risk management.
• Plan, execute and complete ESG assurance engagements in line with PwC methodology and professional standards.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with sustainability, risk, finance and executive stakeholders.
• Manage engagement teams, project plans, budgets and resources to ensure high‑quality delivery.
• Coach and develop team members, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Support clients in interpreting evolving European and local ESG regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to business development, proposals and market‑facing activities.
• Collaborate with PwC teams globally on cross‑border ESG and sustainability projects.

Required profile

• University degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Risk Management or a related field.
• More than 5 years of relevant experience in the financial sector, audit (Big 4 a plus), sustainability, consulting, strategy, risk management or compliance.
• Strong understanding of ESG, sustainability and climate‑related topics; knowledge of banking regulatory environment is an advantage.
• Proven experience managing projects and leading client‑facing teams.
• Excellent analytical, critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
• Fluent communication skills in both Romanian and English.
• Proactive mindset, intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous learning.
