Lead AI Engineer

About the role

PwC is looking for a Lead AI Engineer to provide hands‑on engineering leadership for agentic AI products, guiding the implementation from prototype to production in Bucharest.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical design and implementation of AI agents, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) services, tool integrations and model orchestration.
• Establish coding, testing, evaluation, review and documentation standards across the team.
• Decompose architecture into engineering work, guide estimation and sprint planning.
• Coach engineers, conduct code reviews and resolve complex technical problems.
• Design evaluation suites for quality, safety, reliability, latency and cost, and collaborate with architects and MLOps to harden solutions for production.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience in software, data or machine‑learning engineering with hands‑on AI delivery.
• Strong Python and API engineering capabilities, and experience with modern agent or LLM frameworks.
• Proven ability to lead agile engineering teams while remaining hands‑on.

Required skills

• Python, API development, CI/CD, containerised deployment, pytest, type checking.
• Agent frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Microsoft Agent Framework, Semantic Kernel, OpenAI Agents SDK, AutoGen, CrewAI.
• RAG, embeddings, vector stores, retrieval, prompt and context engineering, model evaluation, distributed systems.
• Integration with enterprise systems via REST or GraphQL APIs, event queues, databases.
• Observability and evaluation tools like LangSmith, MLflow, Langfuse, OpenTelemetry, Azure AI evaluation.
