Engineering Manager - AI Product (100% Remote EMEA)

About the role

Our client, a European technology company, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a small, high‑leverage AI team that builds the systems powering their AI‑enabled products and model‑inference offering. You will manage people, set technical direction, and drive delivery of both applied ML features and production‑scale inference infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, coach, and grow a team of AI/ML engineers and researchers, handling hiring, career development, and performance management.
• Own delivery for AI‑enabling projects, turning ambiguous product and research goals into scoped engineering plans.
• Co‑own the roadmap and operations of the inference offering, ensuring reliability, low latency, cost efficiency, and scalability.
• Partner with research scientists to move promising models from experimentation to production, balancing rigor with shipping velocity.
• Set and maintain engineering standards: code quality, experimentation practices, evaluation methodology, on‑call duties, and incident response.
• Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, and Data teams to prioritize work and remove cross‑team blockers.
• Report on team progress, risks, and capacity to engineering leadership and represent the team in roadmap discussions.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in technical leadership or engineering management, preferably with AI/ML teams.
• Proven track record building and operating AI/ML platforms or inference infrastructure in production.
• Strong understanding of the AI/ML lifecycle, from model training/fine‑tuning to deployment.
• Ability to manage both researchers and engineers, aligning differing work styles and definitions of “done.”
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical trade‑offs for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
